Our u16 Football teams had round two of their respective championships yesterday evening, we had mixed fortunes across the teams.

White Team ( 2nd Team )

Unfortunately due to a high level of injuries across the panel, vacations and lads not being available we unfortunately had to concede the white game vs Lucan Sarsfields. It was the last thing we wanted to do, but simply we had no options left for us to fulfil the fixture. We will work hard to get the lads back for the Final round against Templeogue Synge Street

Green Team ( 1st Team )

Our Green team travelled to St Annes Bohernabreena last night. The weather was extremely strange to say the least, with Strong bluserty wind and sheets of rain followed by nice spells of sunshine, the weather epitimised how the game went for us.

We lost the coin toss and had to play with the wind and down a slight hill in the first half. On an evening like that we knew that the team would have to focus on the basics, ball handling, crisp accurate passing as the conditions would not allow for any complacency. We started very strongly in the 1st quarter and we really capitilised on the conditions with our running game which resulted in us going in to the water break with a good strong lead of 2-5 to 0-3

St Annes still remained a threat and were good with their movement up front and possed us with a number of challenges. They got their purple patch in the 2nd quarter and got a couple of nice scores, and reduced us to two scores ( 1-1)

The 2nd half we had to play up the hill and into the wind ( which seemed to pick up in the 2nd half ) St Annes had the momentum going into the second half after the good spell in the 2nd quarter and also had conditions behind them. We had a bit of cushion with the scoreboard with a 9 point lead but it was going to be a real battle which St Annes brought

They were very direct and ran the ball strongly from their half back and midfield areas creating good overlaps which kept us pinned back at times. We recognised the alarm bells and made some changes to contain the threat, upfront the conditions did not help our forward who found it very difficult to find space and work against the conditions.

After a late surge by St Annes, we managed to get the win coming out 3-7 to 1-9 As I mentioned earlier the game reflected the weather in the 1st quarter we were dominent and showed some fantastic team play resulting in a great return for effort, we drifted in/out of the game in the 2nd half. We got the win, however the performance level that we expect from the lads was missing at times last night...

The postives from last nights game is that we played badly and got a win, which is always a good sign for a team and we will have a lot of areas to get working on over the next two weeks, before our Final group championship game against Kilmacud Crokes to decide who tops the group and gets home advantage as both us and Crokes have guarenteed our places in the Quarter Finals...
